I loved this topic, thank you Cal and Brenda for covering this much needed challenging aspect of our daily lives!
The two things that really stood out to me that I appreciate you pointing out is the hypnotic effect of social media, and the natural tendency for comparison with others online. Both of these can cause issues in our clients lives (and ours) .
Comparing ourself with others NEVER works, someone always loses. Someone is always getting pushed down - either you or them. The only comparison I like to make is am I better than I was yesterday - or hey even 5 minutes ago? 😉
Thank you so much Erika, I am so glad that you enjoyed this episode. I really enjoyed watching it myself and being reminded of all of these important elements of social media (I say that because I always love the fact that I learn by watching the videos just as much as I learn making them!). I'm headed off to post and share this topic... on social media, lol!!
Very informative & current topic in this episode Brenda & Cal. Thank you.
I agree with your comments about seeing the best and the worst on social media, especially Facebook. What I am reminded of is the sheer volume of visual posts on Facebook. They can be overwhelming in themselves...even without words. A picture certainly can paint a thousand words! As an example, I had to unfollow WWF due to the ever increasing posts of animal abuse ( I realise they were trying to raise awareness etc) but I found it distressing being bombarded with them daily.
Much like we rarely listen to or watch the news anymore because of the predominant negative slant, I have come to feel the same way about social media. I limit my time on it & I use it as wisely & positively as I can. I'm not sticking my head in the sand about the negative stuff...I realise it's out there & I'll speak up if I feel compelled, it's just that I remain cautious, always.
Very interesting topic, I appreciate your tips and insights for dealing with this issue...because social media is obviously here to stay.
Dear Brenda and Cal
As usual you cut right down to the core of things and I love that. I personally have had this love/hate relationship with facebook. Great for groups to share information in an easy and efficielt way. But for all the personal stuff you sometimes get in a good mood and sometimes it can take you down. Especially if you often go in there when you are tired and just want to "do nothing". Then you are extra vulnerable to all the negative stuff.
I will not just talk the talk bu also walk the walk and "unfollow" people that brings in negative stuff, have thought about it for a while and now you inspired me to get it done ;-).
Thank you so much 🙂
